Utah & Colorado Intimate Portraits | Self-Portraits

I can’t recall ever taking self portraits outdoors solo. I finally did it though and it’s completely liberating!

Earlier this month, I spent 8 hours driving to SLC for an amazing client. I purposely arrived early enough to drive the extra two hours to the salt flats to scope out the location.

When I arrived, it wasn’t what I had ever experienced there. The speedway was covered in standing water. I had only ever been when it was packed with dry salt and completely drivable so this threw me for a loop.

Rather than get frustrated, I changed in my car so I could easily strip down for some test shots. I packed my camera bag full of everything I might want to change into out in the water, carried my tripod, and began the walk far out to where I couldn’t see people in great detail (so they couldn’t see me too well), set up on an island of salt, and got busy experimenting how I could make things work the following day.

It was a wild success and left me completely motivated to drive back out the next day with Meredith and her friend.

Once I knew this would work out, as things always do, I stripped down for some proper self portraits and tried a few new things.

My two take-aways:

Expect the unexpected and roll with it because things always unfurl as they should.
Spend more time naked in nature. Just because😉

P.S. 2024 travel dates post November 25th and I don’t want to give anything away but the salt and water may be a very big theme this year.
