Fort Collins Hair Artist | Ashley of ‘Ohana Salon

By this point, if you don’t know ‘Ohana, I have to ask where you’ve been this entire time.  ‘Ohana has been the go-to for the Lilac & Fern Colorado experience for years and it’s my pleasure, during this Covid19 craziness, to take a few moments and introduce the folks behind the chairs.

Today, I’m introducing Ashley and, if you follow my Instagram, you may recognize her face. (And booty!)

________

How long have you been doing hair?
I have had my license a little over 15 years. Eight of those years have been with ‘Ohana! I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!
What is your area of expertise?
I would say that my expertise is hair cutting. I absolutely love doing both, however, I am a very technical person, which I feel allows me to thrive in hair cutting! I love looking at pictures that clients bring in, and thinking to myself how am I going to piece a haircut together to bring that look to them and make them the happiest possible?
There is a lot that goes into the haircut, from their face shape, their hair texture and density, their body shape as well as what they are willing to put into their daily styling. These are all very important factors when doing a consultation while in my chair. It’s all about creating illusions to flatter what they look like and what’s doable for them, to recreate the look they desire.
How did you end up at ‘Ohana?
I ended up at ‘Ohana because I decided to leave a bad situation and had heard very good things about the salon. I went in for one interview, and that’s all she wrote, folks!
‘Ohana has gone above and beyond to satisfy my needs and wants as a stylist. From giving me and my fellow stylists the tools we need to put out good work (including ongoing education) to the family atmosphere, which I think is a must to be happy with your employment situation. I will be forever grateful for everything ‘Ohana has offered me as well as a second family for me. We are family at ‘Ohana.
[Popping in here to attest to this. I’ve worked with a lot of salons and nowhere have I encountered such a great vibe.  Everyone is happy, professional, friendly, and on point!  My clients feel it, too. And that is a huge reason I work only with ‘Ohana!]
Favorite hair product?
I would say that I have a lot of favorite products. Anything that creates texture, I absolutely loooove! I love R&co’s Rock Away, their sea salt spray. Hands down amazing. I also love Centerpiece! It’s basically an all in one spray before you style your hair out.

You color your hair some pretty vibrant colors. What has been your favorite?
This is a hard one… I can start by saying which color I didn’t prefer! Lol. I would say that would be the yellow. It’s not that it looked bad by any means…I just never really FELT it, ya know? It’s weird to say, but I felt like the green looked the most natural on me. Like it was suppose to grow out of my head that color, lol.
However, I would say that I get the most compliments with the orange. It’s a color that I feel most people would never consider wearing, therefore, you don’t see it a lot. I think a lot of the compliments I get on it are because of admiration, especially because they think they could never wear a color like it or really even see it anywhere else.
Tip for self-isolation?
Grab a good book series and get comfy. These last four weeks have literally been me lost in an eight-book series! Yeah, I may not be getting tons done around my home but reading puts me at peace and also gives me a great story to get involved in!
I am currently waiting for more books to get delivered today so I can start a new series…. I’m going through serious withdrawals right now with no book in my hands. I definitely have a new obsession!!
Random fact about you.
A fun fact about me, hmmm. What isn’t fun about me?!?! It’s probably that I’m an over sharer, which in turn leads to some very funny AND inappropriate stories!
My idea is, I say all the things that so many people go through but don’t talk about, because it’s embarrassing. Well guess what?! We all deal with the same experiences, and because I voice it, I feel like it can be hilarious, or maybe, just maybe it could make someone feel less insecure or to not be so uptight about things! We’re all human, no one is perfect. Instead of getting embarrassed about something… make someone else laugh because of your experience. Because in reality, they have probably gone through the same thing!
How can we support you and ‘Ohana during the covid chaos?
I would say the biggest part in supporting us is to wait for us. We know how hard this time is, because we are right there with you! Get a hold of the salon to set up your appt. for after the quarantine. I can guarantee that I will be working my butt off to get as many of my clients in as possible, once this is all over. I can honestly say that I have the best clients and know that they are looking out for me too. ‘Ohana is also providing links to buy product which will give our salon the credit as well as an email to purchase color extenders.
