A large part of the Lilac & Fern experience is lingerie. And there are a select few designers that I gush about a lot! Evgenia is one. And for good reason. She’s a one-woman show with boundless talent. Everything Stephanie creates is the perfect juxtaposition of vintage meets modern and is crafted with the finest silks and laces.
From classic highwasited knickers with button closures at the hip to tie side thongs and the most elegant bedjackets and bias cut silk camisoles, Evgenia is the ultimate expression of effortless femininity. Ideal for everyday wear and intimate portraits.
What is your biggest inspiration?
Vintage lingerie. I love vintage silhouettes and embellishments and frequently redesign older pieces as part of a more modern collection, or use vintage design elements and color schemes in my work.
As a designer yourself, what do you look for when adding lingerie to your personal collection?
I love fine details. As much as I can appreciate a clean, simple silhouette, I like my lingerie to be extra frou-frou. Lots of lace, powdery pastel hues, and detailed sewing such as pintucks, embroidery and appliqué. I obviously adore vintage lingerie, and some of my favorite pieces in my collection are actually quite old!
What designers are staples for you?
For lingerie, Angela Friedman (obviously, I can’t count how many pairs of underwear I have from her!), Serpent & Bow (I own one set which I wear all the time), Agent Provocateur for the really fun stuff, and Prima Donna for bras. For clothing, I typically live in either 50’s dresses or overalls. As for contemporary designers, I currently love Etoile from Isabel Marant, Doen, Ulla Johnson, Madewell, and The Great.
What is one piece you feel everyone should have in their collection?
A great silk camisole! You can wear it with lingerie as part of a boudoir ensemble, or out with jeans. I don’t think there’s any one piece as versatile, and my silk Deco Camis are some of my favorite pieces in my personal collection.
