Boise, Idaho Boudoir | Miss K
The first thing that you’ll do after booking your boudoir with me is head home and pull out all the their favorite things from your closet, both lingerie and any clothing you’d like to incorporate like a cozy sweater or a favorite scarf. At this point, I say, once you have a nice pile of your best pieces, weed out the colors and styles that don’t jive with your overall look. This will make it easier to add new items to the mix or even replace outdated or ill-fitting lingerie. And, as I always offer, I’ll head out to local lingerie shops with you to givey ou fit advice or you can browse the Lilac & Fern Closet to find things to borrow for your boudoir so you have some new elements to try out.
Visiting a local lingerie shop is also a great idea and, again, I am more than happy to tag along and help you find pieces that work well with what you have or the look you’re going for. To ensure the best experience, I usually call the shop ahead of our visit and schedule a time so we know we’ll be there when it’s not too busy and we have a knowledgable associate at our ready to pull things from off the sales floor and really give that you that experience of shopping in a proper boutique.
That said, there are a few things to think about when putting together your wardrobe:
- Plan to bring about 5or 6 lingerie outfits that all look great beside one another but expect to wear only 3 or 4 of those sets. Bringing more than you expect to wear is a great idea because you may be more or less comfortable than you expected at the shoot and having the option to change is a huge plus!
- Non-lingerie pieces, like sweaters or tall socks are also great accessories because they can add an extra layer to the feel of an existing piece.
- When shopping and packing your bag before the shoot, fit is hugely important. I believe in playing up assets rather than focusing on covering up what you see as not your strongest feature. In fact, I’d even say that hiding certain things defeats the purpose of your boudoir: focus on the positive and you’re golden!
- Some great options to consider when shopping are a bra & panty set, a bodysuit (LOVE bodysuits!!), a robe to wear with a cute panty solo, a silk and cotton chemise from Salua is always a great option as well because they transition nicely from a bedroom setting to a golden hour backlit shoot or even in the water. (LOVE the water!!)
- Fabric choices, they are a plenty! Some great, luxurious options that photograph really well are lace, silk, and even cotton. And don’t forget about prints! Floral patterns are always in style, especially if they’re in line with the season of your boudoir.
- Choosing what colors to wear is the simplest part of the wardrobe. Think timeless: ivory, cream, soft pinks, lilac, and at least one black set. All work nicely with most skin tones and tend to hold steady over the years. You don’t want to be looking back at your album in 5 years and wonder what on earth you were thinking wearing a neon pink bedazzled bra and panty, do you? (Along the same lines, avoiding logos on pieces is a must! The focus for the shoot is you, not the text on your tush or straps.)
- While shoes are great, barefoot is best. Bring a pair of flats or heels if you like, but, especially for outdoor shoots, expect to get some dirty feet. (It’ll be a great excuse for another pedi after!)
- And always brings a nude thong because there isn’t a time I show up to a shoot without something from the Lilac & Fern Closet for you to borrow. I love sharing my favorite designers with you and want you to have something totally unexpected in your gallery.
