“Well, doing an outdoor shoot was not even close to what I expected. When I booked my trip out to Colorado to shoot with Nicole, I made it a super quick trip because I’ve been traveling so much for work and a little for vacation. (And I wish I had had so much more time!) And while I was really excited about the shoot, I was nervous that I might be too exhausted with all this travel to really “put my best foot forward”. I was also nervous because this was when I’d be meeting all the other ambassadors and it was first shoot outside… in the wild. And also one of the other ambassadors was going to be at my shoot, so that really put the pressure on to ‘bring my A game.’
I was talking to a friend before I went and she said, ‘I’m not brave enough to be anywhere near a camera in my underwear. Especially not out in public!’ and it made me think I might need some ‘bravery’ to do this shoot. But I was wrong.
Once we got there, I was 10 times more excited than I even thought I would be. And by the way, when we showed up, there were so many people there. You would think it would be more nerve-racking, but no. And to be honest, I think the most soothing part about the fact that there were so many people around was that Nicole respected us so much, and made sure we had as much privacy as possible. She kept a look out for us, she redirected people when they came near where we were and she offered us cover when people would walk by. It honestly made the whole experience so comfortable, and (surprisingly) fun! We all laughed about our “audience” and worked together to find the best hiding places, and secret tucked away spots to photograph in.
It was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had and was a day full of joy. And by the way, having another incredible and strong woman there to help cheer me on, take behind the scenes photos, and laugh with us, made the experience so much BETTER, and took away the nerves. I would encourage everyone to take someone to your shoot with you at least once.
I say all this to because nothing goes as expected, and most of the time, that’s in a good way. And also, don’t be nervous in front of Nicole’s camera, it’s exactly where you’re meant to be in that moment. Loosen up and have a little fun. And also, these shoots may take some small amount of ‘bravery’ to say yes, but they breed bravery as well. My first shoot, I was more than happy to strip down into my underwear, but anything below that, I panicked. Because instantly I remembered I hated my boobs, and my stomach was “gross” and I didn’t look good naked from THAT angle, and all the other dumb lies I told myself. And with my second one, as I’ve mentioned before, I was more than happy to strip all the way down. But now on my third shoot, I couldn’t wait to strip down and be my most vulnerable self. And suddenly I was ecstatic to get photos of my boobs because now I LOVE the way they look, and I couldn’t wait to see how good I looked naked from every angle. So take the step, say YES! You won’t regret the reward and the growth. I promise you that.
